Is this the antique Buffalo Trace Japanese whisky collection?

The world’s first iteration of the elite whisky series inspired by the term arrived in 2022. It included four bottles, all under the Yamazaki brand, none of which carried an age statement.

Three of the bottlings in the series featured whisky aged in unique casks, including larger Puncheon casks and Spanish and Mizunara oak casks. The fourth offering in the series, Yamazaki peated malt, stood out thanks to its namesake ingredient generally prized for its smoky flavor characteristics.

Three of the four bottles were priced at $450, while the Mizunara-aged bottle was priced at $620. The individual bottle retail prices were, of course, much higher.

The 2024 Tsukuriwake Series

The 2024 edition of the Tsukuriwake series once again features an exciting blend of whiskies. Two bottles are new releases, while two others are limited editions of ultra-premium 18-year-old versions of Yamazaki and Hakushu, which House of Suntory has chosen to bring back due to popular demand.

Yamazaki Golden Promise is named after Golden Promise barley. This unique grain was originally developed in the 1950s and was quickly adopted by English and Irish brewers for its distinctive malty flavour. In the context of whisky, former Master Distiller of The Macallan David Robertson once described the impact of this grain as adding “spunk, oil and smoothness”.
