Two people arrested for stealing phones with evidence of fraud

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) – Cameron County Sheriff’s officials have arrested two women suspected of being involved in an aggravated robbery.

On June 25 at approximately 9:55 p.m., officers responded to an aggravated robbery in the 2300 block of Magdalena Avenue in Brownsville.

Upon their arrival, officers learned that the victim’s cell phone had been stolen by two men at gunpoint.

One of the suspects had a gun to the victim’s head and demanded his cell phone. The same suspect then fired his weapon once at the ground in an attempt to scare the victim into compliance. Both men then took the victim’s cell phone and left the area.

The men were later identified as Juan Carlos Macias and Brian Rodriguez. Macias was arrested the same day and Rodriguez on June 27.

On June 29, investigators learned that both suspects had been hired by a woman named Angelica Reyes, 47, to steal the cell phone in question. The woman wanted the phone because it contained evidence of her infidelity.

Reyes had agreed to pay Rodriguez $100 for the cell phone. After Rodriguez and Macias were arrested, Rodriguez’s sister, Jade Urenda, 21, contacted Reyes to demand the $100 she owed her brother.

Reyes paid Urenda the $100 that Rodriguez owed for stealing the cell phone.

Warrants were obtained and both women were arrested for their involvement. Both were charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and engaging in organized crime, a first-degree felony.
