Bengaluru police impose fines on people who violate lane discipline on accident-prone airport roads | Bengaluru

In a bid to crack down on the lack of lane discipline on Bengaluru’s airport road, the traffic police announced that those who do not follow lane rules will be fined. This came after several accidents were reported on the airport road due to over-speeding of vehicles.

A statement from Bengaluru Police said, “Drivers of all vehicles on Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Road (BB Road – NH-44) under the jurisdiction of Bangalore City Police are required to drive their vehicles on the designated lane (Path). Violation of traffic rules will be punishable with fine without exception.”

All heavy vehicles, trucks and two-wheelers will not be allowed to exceed the speed limit of 50 kmph, while cars will not be allowed to travel faster than 80 kmph. Action will be taken against those found driving in their assigned lanes.

Earlier, Bengaluru Traffic Police had installed eight AI-powered speed trap cameras on the International Airport Road. The cameras were installed along the elevated corridor of Ballari Road to track vehicles exceeding the permissible speed limit of 80 kmph.

According to Bengaluru Police, nine percent of all accidents in Bengaluru were reported on the airport road. The stretch of Bellary Road to Kempegowda International Airport is one of the most accident-prone stretches in the city as motorists often exceed the speed limit there.

Cyclists must expect a fine 1000, while cars are fined 2000 for speeding on airport roads.
