The police chief is accused of raping a minor

Yesterday morning at 4:46am, before sunrise, restless X-user @AdetheExplorer used his X-account to appeal to the public for help in getting justice for his 17-year-old sister who was raped at Ogudu Police Station by a Police Commissioner named Owolabi Akinlolu.

@AdetheExplorer’s call for help came two days after the matter escalated, with her mother explaining that the accused’s wife and family members were pleading with her to drop the matter as the accused’s retirement was imminent. The mother also mentioned that the authorities were trying to suppress the allegation, with the Area Commander urging her to convince them to drop the matter. The police told her that the whereabouts of the accused were unknown, although Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspect was in custody.

According to the victim, the accused police officer offered to help her locate and recover her stolen phone after he overheard her describing the situation to her mother.

On June 29, 2024, the teenager’s mother, Mrs. Aramide Olupona, received a call from Officer Owolabi informing her that the phone thief had been caught and told the teenager to come to the police station. When she arrived, they informed her that they had arrested the wrong person due to a tracking error.

Officer Owolabi then sent his personal assistant to call the teen into his office. When she got inside, the officer locked the door and left the keys in his pocket. Frightened and confused, the teen asked what was going on and instead was threatened with a cocked gun. He threatened to shoot her if she didn’t keep quiet and cooperate. He began pulling at her clothes and harassing her. When she resisted, he hit her in the back of the head with his gun – and then raped her.

The officer then told her to report to his office daily, either during her lunch break or on her way home after school, adding that she finally fell into his trap after he had been watching her for two years.

On June 14, Lagos State Police Spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin said tweeted that the police are not trying to cover up the case and that a full investigation has been launched.

On July 15 at 7:16 a.m., the victim’s brother posted on X that the accused commissioner was now in police custody.

An hour later, Benjamin Hundeyin tweeted that the teenager had undergone a medical examination and that they were awaiting the result.
