Mendoza arrested for driving without a license after traffic accident

A Plymouth man was arrested shortly before 7 a.m. Monday morning following a two-vehicle crash on Michigan Street at Plymouth Goshen Trail.

Patrolman Enyart was dispatched to the scene to investigate the accident. During the investigation, he determined that 20-year-old Phavel Ivan Mendoza of the 900 block of South Michigan Street was at fault. It was also determined that Mendoza was driving the vehicle without ever having held a driver’s license.

Phavel Mendoza was taken to the Marshall County Jail where he was booked on a charge of driving without a license. His initial hearing will be held on August 13 in Marshall Superior Court II.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only a reasonable suspicion to believe that a crime has been committed. Defendants are presumed innocent throughout the trial and are entitled to legal representation and to a jury trial, where the State is required to present evidence beyond a reasonable doubt before a verdict of guilt can be entered.
