Spokane man arrested for bar shooting

Mateo L. Bear was booked into the Spokane County Jail on ten counts of first-degree assault.

SPOKANE, Washington – On Sunday evening, shortly after 9 p.m., the Spokane Police Department (SPD) responded to a 911 call involving a man drinking at a bar in the 1400 block of E. Illinois Avenue who got into an argument with a passerby.

Officers responding to the call learned that the man had been prevented from consuming any more drinks and was asked to leave the bar. He left the bar but then began urinating in the parking lot in full view of patrons who were outside on the patio.

Officials said the man then grabbed a gun and fired two to three shots at the bar and patrons outside. A bullet hole was found in the fence surrounding the patio, but fortunately no one was hit.

According to the SPD, the man was found nearby and arrested. The suspect had hidden his weapon in a recycling bin. Officials said the weapon was loaded and was placed near children who were riding bicycles.

Mateo L. Bear, 22, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on 10 counts of assault. He was arraigned this afternoon and his bail was set at $250,000.
