29-year-old woman raped by Uber driver

Hyderabad: In a horrific incident, a 29-year-old woman was raped by two unidentified men with the help of an autorickshaw driver in Alwal on Friday night. The woman, from Yapral, had gone to the Alwal police station on July 12 to lodge a complaint against her husband. She reached the station in a car she had booked through Uber.

After she made her complaint, the driver, who had been waiting near the station, approached her and offered to help her. He made a detour and stopped near a wine shop, where he picked up two men who were drinking. They forced the woman to drink alcohol as well.

The woman driving the car drove to a deserted area on Venkat Rao Lane in Alwal. There, the men threatened her and dragged her into a car. After the woman driving the car left, the two raped her in the vehicle.

At around 2:45 am on Saturday, she managed to escape and reached the Ganesh temple where she sought help from the locals. She called the police on 100; the Bollaram police responded and took her to the station. No FIR was registered; the case was transferred to the Alwal police station. The Alwal police launched an investigation which led to the arrest of the auto driver, identified as Shankar. The two men are still at large.
