Man arrested after leading police on a chase in Emporia on Sunday

EMPORIA, Kansas (KSNW) – A man was arrested after leading officers from the Emporia Police Department and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office on a chase in Emporia.

According to the EPD, officers were investigating a crime on Sunday in which a 33-year-old man was considered a suspect.


The suspect was reportedly driving a white Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Later that afternoon, a reckless driver was reported on Interstate 35 in a car matching the description of the suspect’s car.

According to EPD, an officer waited for the Jeep to get back into town. When he arrived, the officer attempted to stop the Jeep, which was traveling eastbound on Highway 50.

An LCSO officer was also on scene to assist the EPD officer in attempting to stop the Jeep.

“The Jeep fled south on Weaver. It then traveled west through Emporia to Prairie St. The Jeep traveled north on Prairie to 12th Ave, then west again until it reached Industrial Rd. The Jeep fled north on Industrial Rd until it reached I35. The Jeep traveled north on I35 until it exited at Exit 133. The Jeep then traveled west back to Emporia,” the EPD said. “The Jeep became disabled and came to a stop in the 1800 block of E. Highway 50.”

The driver of the Jeep was the suspect officers were looking for in connection with the crime they had investigated earlier that day.

The man was arrested in connection with this chase on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, fleeing and other traffic offenses.
