Sunshine Coast ferry delays and cancellations on Monday due to ‘incident’ involving two cars

Paramedics provided emergency medical care to two people and were able to transport them to hospital in stable condition, BC Emergency Health Services said.

A “vehicle accident” on the Sunshine Coast Queen of Surrey There were delays and cancellations of ferries on Route 3 on Monday morning.

Queen of CoquitlamThe 16:20 departures from Langdale and 17:30 departures from Horseshoe Bay were cancelled due to an earlier “vehicle accident” on the Queen of Surrey (the other ship on the route).

As of 3:15 p.m., there was a delay of about 60 minutes on the route, according to BC Ferries. The cancellations are being made “to reduce congestion at terminal berths and avoid possible further delays,” according to a service announcement.

What happened?

The Queen of Surrey had docked in Langdale for the 11 a.m. departure when two vehicles collided as they were boarding the vessel, BC Ferries spokeswoman Ceilidh Marlow said in an email. “The vehicles involved were directed into their lane by the crew as normal and then collided a short time later as they continued to approach the vessel.”

The two vehicles were removed by tow truck and BC Ambulance cared for the affected passengers, Marlow added.

BC Emergency Health Services was notified at 11:04 a.m. of a car accident on the ship’s car deck, paramedic and spokesperson Brian Twaites said in an email. “Two ambulances with paramedics responded to the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical care to two patients and transported them to hospital in stable condition.”

Marlow said in her email: “Our crew worked quickly to ensure that all necessary processes were followed for the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew.”
