Jury finds Fox Lake man not guilty in fatal Green Lake County traffic accident

(Fox Lake) A Green Lake County jury has found a Fox Lake man not guilty in a fatal traffic accident. The jury’s decision, following a four-day trial, was read in the courtroom after about three hours of deliberation.

Carlton Schley Sr. was charged with second-degree manslaughter and second-degree manslaughter. The accident occurred in July 2020 at the intersection of County Highway A and Hickory Drive in the town of Mackford.

According to the criminal complaint, Schley was operating a John Deere tractor-trailer sprayer with booms and failed to stop at a stop sign on Hickory Drive. A Toyota RAV4 driven by a 73-year-old man crashed into the tractor’s sprayer, killing him and injuring the 72-year-old woman who was his passenger.

For the 63-year-old Schley, it was the second jury trial on the charges against him. In December, the case was declared to have failed.
