Motorcycle accident in Lusby claims a life

LUSBY, MD — A fatal motorcycle crash occurred last night around 7 p.m. on Maryland Rt. 4 near Nursery Road in Lusby. Officers from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene following the incident.

Preliminary findings indicate that the accident occurred when 36-year-old Paul O’Neal of Lusby, who was traveling north on a Honda motorcycle, collided with the rear passenger side of a northbound Dodge 3500. O’Neal was ejected from his motorcycle and pronounced dead by emergency responders at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge, identified as David Payne, 52, of St. Leonard, suffered no injuries. Witnesses confirmed that the motorcycle was traveling at excessive speed, which likely contributed to the severity of the crash.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing. The authorities are primarily considering speed and lack of control of the vehicle.
