Santa Ana high school coach arrested for sexual misconduct – NBC Los Angeles

A 28-year-old high school coach has been arrested on suspicion of making contact with a minor with the intent to commit a sex crime, Santa Ana police said Sunday.

Aaron Raya, head track and field coach at Godinez High School, was taken into custody pending an investigation that began after a mother reported finding inappropriate text messages between Raya and her minor daughter.

According to police, Raya initially communicated with the victim via social media about athletics events during the school year.

However, immediately after the graduation ceremony, the student allegedly began making sexual advances to her and tried to arrange a meeting.

During the course of the investigation, investigators identified two other underage victims, both former students of Godinez High School, who reported similar sexual advances from Raya.

Santa Ana police arrested Raya at his Santa Ana home on July 14. He was subsequently booked into the Orange County Jail on sex charges and bail was set at $100,000.

Since Raya also worked as a football coach and substitute teacher, authorities believe there may be more victims.

Parents and students are urged to provide information or report similar suspicious behavior to the authorities immediately.
