LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) – Police have arrested a Cumberland woman accused of driving while intoxicated over the weekend and crashing her car into a utility pole.

Jennifer Masi, 41, was charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in property damage. Masi was also charged with speeding, driving without insurance and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

Late Sunday evening, officers were called to the intersection of Commerce Street and Blackstone Valley Place to investigate an accident that caused a widespread power outage.

When officers arrived, they found an abandoned and badly damaged SUV and a downed power line, police said.

Witnesses told officers that the driver, later identified by police as Masi, got out of the car and walked toward a nearby baseball field.

According to police, officers found Masi near the scene of the accident. She was arrested after officers noticed she had bloodshot and watery eyes, was slurring her speech and had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, police said.

Masi was taken to Landmark Medical Center for evaluation and ordered to appear in 3rd District Court at a later date.
