Oriskany Falls man arrested after domestic incident

AUGUSTA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, an Oriskany Falls man was arrested last week following an incident and search in Augusta.

On Sunday, July 7, sheriffs were called to a residence for a report of a domestic disturbance that occurred two days later. Further investigation revealed that the suspect – 44-year-old Amjad Rashid Jr. of Oriskany Falls – had illegally confined a female victim and her child. It was also reported that Rashid had allegedly struck and injured the victim multiple times.


At some point, the victim managed to leave the house and call 911 from a store across the street. According to police, Rashid fled the scene before officers arrived on the scene.

The next day, Rashid’s vehicle was found on a nature trail in the city of Madison. New York State Police and Forest Rangers were alerted to search the area. Tracking dogs and drones were also used in the search.

Rashid eventually returned to the apartment the next day and was immediately taken into custody. He was then taken to Wynn Hospital for treatment.

After being released from the hospital on Monday, July 15, Rashid was turned over to the custody of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and officially charged.

Rashid is accused of:

  • Second degree harassment,
  • second degree deprivation of liberty,
  • Fourth degree criminal damage – preventing an emergency call,
  • Endangerment of the child’s welfare,
  • reckless endangerment in the second degree,
  • Criminal obstruction of breathing and
  • Third degree assault.

All of the charges are Class A misdemeanors, except for the charge of second-degree harassment, which is a misdemeanor.

Rashid was transported to the Wyman Law Enforcement Building for processing. He is currently being held awaiting arraignment in Oneida County Central Criminal Court.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police and the New York State Forest Rangers in the incident.
