Police in Melbourne investigate suspected murder

Melbourne Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was found dead in a car park on Sunday night. Police say the man killed is 39-year-old Westly Lopes of Melbourne. According to police, officers responded to a car park on Sarno Road at around 11:16 p.m. after receiving reports that a man had been shot. Police say Lopes was left in the Sarno Business Complex car park. Upon arrival, officers found Lopes unconscious and with visible injuries. Other officers rushed to perform life-saving measures; however, the victim was pronounced dead. MPD said they are still actively investigating the death, but added that the act does not appear to have been random. Mike Heslewood, the owner of Mugs Pub, says he believes the victim was shot in a car and then thrown from the vehicle. “I heard three or five gunshots from inside the bar. I believe one of the patrons tried to resuscitate the guy, but it didn’t happen,” Heslewood said. Heslewood also said his security cameras filmed two vehicles. He hopes that footage can help police find the people involved in this fatal shooting. He adds that none of the suspects or the victim actually went to the bar. Police say Lopes is not affiliated with either business and there is no indication he was a patron of the establishment Sunday night. No arrests have been made. >> This is a breaking news story.
