Speeder in Manhattan: Scooter rider dies in accident with Volvo driver without license

A 19-year-old man riding a gasoline-powered scooter was killed in a collision with an unlicensed Volvo driver on the Upper East Side, police said Monday.

The victim ran a red light while heading downtown on Second Avenue and was struck by the Volvo driven by a 36-year-old man heading east on East 79th Street around 11:50 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Paramedics took the victim to nearby New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell, but he could not be saved.

Volvo driver Shraga Orgad of Brooklyn was charged with driving without a license.
