Donald Trump’s shooting: The attack on Donald Trump is compared to the assassination of Ronald Reagan. The former secret service agent who saved Reagan said this

Was the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump a security failure? Although there is no foolproof security anywhere in the world, the question remains why it happened and how it can be prevented in the future. Moreover, it was not the first assassination attempt on a former or sitting president. Ronald Reagan was attacked in 1981 when he was US President. Former Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy, who defended Reagan from a gunman, compared the recent assassination attempt to the shooting of Reagan. Speaking to local TV station WGN News, he said it was simply a security failure. He added that the shooting of President Reagan was also a failure.

“A plain and simple security failure”

The former intelligence agent explained the incident that shocked the world by saying that every time a protected person is harmed, something needs to change. He went on to say that one needs to critically examine what happened, why it happened and how it can be prevented in the future.

“Close to Joe Biden’s security arrangement”

McCarthy said he did not have details on Trump’s security arrangements, but said they are likely “pretty darn close” to what President Joe Biden is receiving. The retired Secret Service agent said security teams are sweeping the area and securing the building while obscuring the view with “different types of shields” such as campaign placards or banners. Security teams are also expected to surround the podium to block the view from outside the secured area.

“Investigation initiated”

According to Business Insider, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service are working with law enforcement partners to investigate the incident involving the shooting of Donald Trump.

Donald Trump thanks the people

In a post on Truth Social after the incident, the former president thanked people for their “thoughts and prayers.” He also said he looked forward to “speaking to our great nation this week from Wisconsin,” where the Republican National Convention is scheduled to take place.
