Pittsburgh Steelers get early look at former WR

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers will welcome a familiar face to St. Vincent this summer, holding a joint workout with the Buffalo Bills days before their preseason game, the NFL announced.

Buffalo will face the Steelers on Aug. 17 at Acrisure Stadium, but will get their first look at the team on Aug. 15 when the Bills join their practice. This is the first time the Steelers have hosted Buffalo for a joint practice since 2014.

With the Bills’ arrival, a former Steelers wideout will be making Latrobe his home. Pittsburgh will welcome former second-round pick Chase Claypool to Latrobe for the first time since he left in 2022. Since then, Claypool has spent time with the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins and now the Bills.

For now, Buffalo is counting on Claypool to earn a spot in the receiving game alongside rookie Keon Coleman and third-year receiver Khalil Shakir. This comes after the team lost Gabe Davis and Stefon Diggs.

During his time in Pittsburgh, Claypool started 27 games, recording 153 receptions for 2,044 yards and 12 touchdowns. Since his departure, he has only caught 22 passes for 217 yards and one touchdown. He has only played in 19 games.

The Steelers will also be able to see their former starting quarterback in Mitch Trubisky. Trubisky signed with the Bills in 2022 but spent just two years in Pittsburgh before being released and returning to Buffalo at the start of free agency.

Pittsburgh will likely have a close look at Trubisky from the other side of the field in their preseason game, as the backups will be on the field for most of the game. During his time in Pittsburgh, Trubisky started seven games, going 2-5 with eight touchdowns thrown against 10 interceptions.
