Lamborghini Urus loses tires but continues to drive on its rims during a 190 km/h police chase

The Lamborghini Urus is an impressive second SUV approach for the supercar maker, but let’s face it: It’s not exactly subtle. That makes it a poor choice as a getaway car when trying to evade the police, as one Urus driver in Canada found out last week shortly before his arrest, according to police and CTV News.

A video released by Canada’s York Regional Police shows the chase starting on a highway and then passing a police car on a dead-end street. According to police, the Lamborghini reached speeds of over 200 km/h during the chase. The Urus then crashes into what the police department calls a “tire deflation device,” causing damage before the driver can get back on the highway. This causes a large tire blowout, but the driver continues driving for a distance after the impact at a reported 140 km/h, apparently kicking up sparks and debris, as shown by the police helicopter’s infrared camera.

In a portion of the chase not seen in the video, police said in a report released Friday that the driver was briefly surrounded in an apartment complex before “intentionally driving into marked patrol cars” and fleeing again, still with a flat tire. Helicopter footage then shows the driver and another car driving into a parking lot, where the driver and a passenger get out to meet the driver of the other car. Police then rush in and arrest the drivers of both cars.

The driver of the Urus was charged with dangerous driving, fleeing from a police officer and failing to stop after an accident. A second driver was also charged with armed assault on a police officer. This charge stems from the driver running over a police officer’s foot while attempting to flee from arrest. The incident is said to have occurred between cuts in the chase video, according to the police report. Photos from the scene of the accident shared by police show significant damage to the Urus, which was running on two bare right wheels after the flat tires.
