Princess Anne cannot remember her horse accident

Princess Anne’s memory loss following her horse accident in June is very real – so real that she has no memory of the incident at all.

The Princess Royal resumed her royal duties on July 12, making a public appearance during a visit to the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) national championships at Hartpury University and Hartpury College. According to royal reporter Rebecca English, Helena Vega Lozano, chair of RDA UK, said: “As soon as she got out of the car she said, ‘I can’t remember anything.'”

The incident occurred on June 23 at Anne’s Gatcombe Park property. The events resulted in “minor injuries and concussion” which led to a six-day stay at Southmead Hospital, where Anne showed signs of memory loss following the accident.

“The Princess Royal has suffered minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate last night,” the palace said in a statement following Anne’s accident. “Her Royal Highness remains at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for observation as a precautionary measure and is expected to make a full and speedy recovery.” The palace said Anne’s brother, King Charles, “has stayed updated and joins the entire Royal Family in sending the Princess their deepest love and best wishes for a speedy recovery.”

BBC and Sky News later reported that Anne left the hospital on June 28 alongside her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence. They issued a statement via Sky News thanking the hospital for its care. “I would like to express my warmest thanks to the whole team at Southmead Hospital for their care, expertise and kindness during my wife’s short stay,” he said.

Although Anne is well enough to return to work, her amnesia is causing concern for her daughter Zara Tindall. A source said OK! that Anne’s accident “has really shaken Zara to her core and she desperately hopes that this memory is only temporary,” adding: “This has been a massive wake-up call for everyone in the family and they are rightly distressed.”

Anne’s love of horses is well documented, but it is said to have always given Tindall pause. The source continued: “This is exactly what Zara has been worried about for years, but her mum hasn’t had a chance to slow down as everyone else has fallen apart.”
