On July 13, at approximately 12:02 a.m., La Mesa Police received a 911 call about a person in the 7500 block of High Street.

The caller reported seeing a man stagger across the street and then fall in the driveway of an apartment complex. Officers found the man and found him with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Officers and firefighters immediately administered first aid, but despite their life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on initial information provided by investigators, it does not appear that the victim, a 25-year-old white male from La Mesa, was shot in the street. There have been no reports of gunfire in the area. Just before the victim staggered across the street, a light-colored sedan was seen traveling westbound on High Street, but it is unknown if that vehicle is connected to this incident. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Car and pedestrian traffic in the 7500 block of High Street, between Waite Drive and the Park and Ride at 7600 High Street, was closed for several hours but later reopened.
