1 person killed in fire at grocery store in Dover

Hillsborough County Fire Department rescue crews responded to a fire Sunday afternoon and found a person dead at a grocery store in Dover.

The department’s emergency crews received calls around 5 p.m. reporting fire and smoke at the Dover Mexican Market at 3223 Sydney Dover Road. When crews arrived, the building was already engulfed in flames, according to a news release from the department.

Firefighters began a defensive effort, fighting the fire from outside the building. Once they were able to safely enter the building, firefighters found the body of a person who had died in the fire.

No firefighters were injured and fire inspectors were on site on Sunday evening.
