Atlanta Braves draft former Benedictine player Carter Holton

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Atlanta Braves stayed close to home with their second-round pick in this year’s Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft.

With the 62nd pick, the Braves selected pitcher Carter Holton. Holton is an alumnus of Benedictine Military School in Savannah. At Benedictine, Holton went 31-4 and struck out 463 batters. He also set a state record with a career 0.59 ERA.

He finished his high school career as the No. 1 left-handed pitcher in the country, according to Perfect Game.

Holton spent the last three seasons playing baseball at Vanderbilt University. He went 18-10 with a 4.09 ERA and 251 strikeouts during his time with the Commodores.

The 6-foot-1 left-hander entered the 2024 MLB Draft as the 69th overall prospect. He was previously drafted in the 19th round of the 2021 MLB Draft. The Milwaukee Brewers selected him with the 567th pick.
