After former President Donald Trump was shot during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, some of the state’s established congressmen or others seeking seats in Congress condemned the incident.

Republican Senator Roger Marshall said: “We as a nation must pause and understand the magnitude of this event. There is no place for this violence in civil society.”

Republican Derek Schmidt, who is running for the seat in Kansas’ 2nd congressional district being vacated by fellow Republican Jake LaTurner, asked for prayers for the country, for all those affected by the shooting, for law enforcement and for Trump, saying: “The people, not violent criminals, will decide the future path of our great nation.”

Democrat Nancy Boyda, who is also running for the second district, said: “We must be united and
“These actions constitute a serious threat to the democratic process and the security of all people, regardless of their political affiliation.”

Trump said he was shot in the right ear barely 10 minutes into his speech Saturday night. The gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, a registered Republican, and an innocent bystander were killed. Two others were injured. No motive has been determined. The FBI says evidence suggests it was a lone gunman, but the investigation is ongoing.
