Several local emergency services respond to a boating accident on Lake Cumberland over the weekend

Just before 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, the Russell County Search and Rescue Unit, along with several other agencies, responded to a collision involving two boats on Lake Cumberland between the Low Gap and Marina Rowena areas. The collision resulted in three people entering the water. Fortunately, all three were wearing life jackets, which undoubtedly saved their lives.

One person sustained injuries that required extrication from the water. Four rescue divers placed the patient on a spinal stretcher. Two patients were transported by boat to Halcomb’s Landing, where a helicopter was waiting. One patient was flown by helicopter to a Level 1 trauma center. The second patient was originally scheduled to be transported by another helicopter, but was instead taken to a nearby hospital. A third helicopter landed at Jamestown Marina to transport the third patient.
