2 dead in house fire in Le Sueur County

Two people died in a house fire in Le Sueur County early Sunday morning.

Le Sueur County Sheriff Brett Mason said officers responded to a report of a fire at a home on Jindra Lane in Montgomery Township just before 1 a.m.

Betty Jindra, 73, called 911 to report that the house was on fire and that she and 76-year-old Roman Jindra were trapped inside, authorities said.

Sheriff’s officers, Montgomery Fire Department and Le Center Fire Department arrived and attempted to enter the building but were pushed back by heavy smoke and heat.

Eventually, the firefighters got inside and found a man and a woman in the kitchen. The rescue workers confirmed their deaths on the scene.

Officers identified the victims as Roman and Betty Jindra.

The State Fire Marshal was called to the scene to assist in determining the cause of the fire.
