Teens arrested after fight at Amsterdam high school

AMSTERDAM, NY (NEWS10) – Nine teenagers were arrested after a fight at Amsterdam High School. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to the school Monday morning for reports of altercations between several students.

Six of the students were charged with attempted third-degree assault. Three other people were charged with disorderly conduct. The sheriff said additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.


The superintendent said the district is committed to creating a culture of respect. On Monday morning, the students were held for more than an hour while police responded.

District leaders were scheduled to meet with city officials and law enforcement to discuss ways to effectively address behavioral problems.
