Two people arrested after fatal shooting on Los Angeles Metro train in West Adams

Suspects charged with murder of Juan Garcia

Two suspects have been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Juan Garcia on a Los Angeles Metro train last month, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

As KTLA 5 News reported, a 20-year-old man, Oscar Martinez, and a 16-year-old teenager were arrested on Wednesday, July 10.

Garcia, a Metro passenger, was shot in the head on June 21 on the E Line in West Adams at the La Cienega and Jefferson stop. The crime occurred brazenly in front of a number of witnesses, and Juan Garcia died at the scene.

LAPD Captain Jamie Bennett said, according to KTLA: “Apparently there was some sort of argument between a group of men down here on the ground floor. They ran up the stairs and boarded a train that was waiting there to let passengers off. The shooting occurred on the train. Then the suspects left the platform and ran down the stairs.”

Witnesses initially told police that three suspects were involved in the incident, but so far only two of them have been arrested. The LAPD has not released any further information about the third suspect.

Oscar Martinez and the teenager were charged with murder, and Martinez was also charged with assault with a semi-automatic firearm. Bail was set at $2 million and Martinez is still being held by police.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the LAPD.
