Drunk driver arrested at Applebee’s

Plymouth Police were dispatched to Applebee’s, 2225 North Oak Drive, at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, July 11, for the arrest of a possible intoxicated driver.th.

Officer Lovely arrived on scene and observed a gray Discovery pulling out of the Applebee’s parking lot. The vehicle sped straight through the stop sign and across five lanes of traffic. It then accelerated eastbound down Pilgrim Lane at a high rate of speed until it came to a stop at Western Avenue.

During the investigation, the odor of alcoholic beverages was detected. The driver, 36-year-old Jared Knapp, agreed to take a breathalyzer test and all tests showed impairment.

Knapp was taken to Saint Joseph Hospital where he underwent a certified chemical test which revealed that his blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit.

Jared Knapp was taken to the Marshall County Jail and charged with driving under the influence (with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony), driving under the influence and endangering a person under 18 (a Level 6 felony), and neglect of a dependent (a Level 6 felony).

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only a reasonable suspicion to believe that a crime has been committed. Defendants are presumed innocent throughout the trial and are entitled to legal representation and to a jury trial, where the State is required to present evidence beyond a reasonable doubt before a verdict of guilt can be entered.
