GOAL: A 70-year-old woman and a minor were allegedly raped in individual incidents in the Goalpara District from Assam on Sunday.

The first incident occurred in the Matia area when an elderly woman was driving her cattle to graze near her house and was allegedly raped by a youth after he covered her mouth with a towel on Sunday afternoon.

“When the youth tried to kill her after raping her, she bit him and escaped. We have had the woman examined by a doctor and are waiting for the report,” said a senior police officer.

The accused was arrested by the Assam Police.

In another incident, on July 9, a minor girl of 11 years was raped by the driver of her school bus in Siluk Majpara village under Dudhnoi police station area.

According to the police officer, she did not tell anyone about it because the accused had threatened her with serious consequences. Yesterday, however, she complained of terrible stomach pains. When her mother asked her about it, she told everything.

The accused, who regularly took the girl on his school bus, is said to have raped her when she was alone at home. He entered the house under the pretext of looking for drinking water, police said.

“Her family filed a report at the police station on Sunday and we arrested the perpetrator,” he added.
