Extreme heat warnings have been issued for the valley

ALARM: Heat warnings issued for the valley

Heat and humidity will dominate the headlines in the coming work week. The probability of storms is also increasing again. TJ Springer has the timetable and when things will improve a bit.

TAYLOR. THANKS. THE OFFICIAL LAST DAY OF THE WINERY IS THIS THURSDAY. NOW THE WGAL NEWS EIGHT STORM TEAM FORECAST WITH METEOROLOGIST TJ SPRINGER. WE KNOW IT WAS A HOT DAY, BUT DESPITE THE HEAT, A NICE COLD DRINK LIKE A GLASS OF WINE PROBABLY WASN’T A BAD WAY TO SPEND A SUNDAY, BUT WE’LL CONTINUE TO DEAL WITH THIS HEAT FOR THE REST OF OUR EARLY WEEK. AND SO WE’RE GOING TO HAVE MORE WARNING DAYS AND IMPACT DAYS AHEAD. THERE WERE SOME DROPS OF RAIN TODAY AS WELL. SOME STRONGER STORMS. THOSE HAVE DISAPPEARED IN THE MEANTIME BUT WE CAN STILL SEE A LITTLE HUMIDITY ACROSS THE COMMONWEALTH ON STORM TEAM’S LIVE RADAR NETWORK. THAT’S DUE TO THE REALLY SEVERAL WEAK DISTURBANCES UP IN THE ATMOSPHERE, WE CAN SEE ONE STILL PRODUCING A FEW DUMPERS IN THE VALLEY. NOW NOTE THE ACTIVITY TO THE WEST, CLOSER TO I-79, WHICH IS Fizzing BUT STILL COULD LAST FOR AN ISOLATED RAIN OR DUMP UNTIL THE EARLY MORNING OF OUR MONDAY. SO WE WILL BE MONITORING THAT. BUT OVERALL IT’S CALM HERE AT HOME. WE CAN SEE THAT IN WHITE ROSE CITY LOOKING OUT TO THE EAST SOUTHEAST THERE ARE JUST A FEW CLOUDS OUT THERE. WE SAW THEM EARLY EVENING, BUT THEY HAVE MADE SOME BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS OUT THERE. DEW POINTS STILL IN THE 20S. WHEN THEY WERE OUT EARLIER THEY DROPPED BRIEFLY BEHIND THAT BORDER WHICH IS STILL NEAR US, BUT IT DIDN’T TAKE LONG FOR THEM TO RISE BACK UP TO THE 20S. WITH THAT FLOW. AND THAT’S WHY IT STILL FEELS LIKE THE LOWER 30S FROM HARRISBURG TO GETTYSBURG, EXACTLY 30S IN CHAMBERSBURG. THE HEAT INDEX FEELS A LITTLE BETTER THERE. 80 IN LANCASTER, BUT IT’S STILL ROUGH OUT THERE. THE TEMPERATURE WILL DROPS BACK TO THE LOWER TO MID 70S, BUT THE HUMIDITY WILL MAKE IT FEEL EVEN WORSE. BEWARE OF SOME RAIN SHOWERS. TOMORROW MORNING YOU WILL SEE SOME CLOUDS. IF YOU GET OUT EARLY, YOU WILL WANT TO TRY TO ESCAPE THE HEAT. THEN YOU’LL WANT TO DO SOME OF THESE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES IN THE LOWER TO MID-80S. BUT WE’RE GETTING TOWARDS 35 DEGREE RATINGS BACK, WITH FEELS POSSIBLY AROUND 40. IF NOT, MAYBE A LITTLE HIGHER IN SOME PLACES. SO IT’S A WARNING DAY. AND AGAIN, WHILE ANOTHER DISTURBANCE HITS IN, WE’RE WORKING OR WATCHING, I SHOULD SAY, SOME THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING LATER IN THE DAY. WE HIT 35 TODAY, ALMOST 10 DEGREES MORE THAN WE SHOULD BE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. MAYBE YOU’RE HOPING FOR THE COLD. UNFORTUNATELY, WE WILL NOT GET BEYOND THE RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 11° C F WHICH WAS SET IN 1940. WE HAVE ISSUED EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNINGS TODAY. This warning will now be in effect from noon tomorrow through 8 p.m. Tuesday. Both days are warning days as heat readings can range from 100 to 110 degrees, which greatly increases the risk of heat-related illness, so be sure to take frequent air conditioning breaks, drink plenty of fluids, and try not to overexert yourself if you have to be outside for long periods of time. I THINK TOMORROW IS OUR BEST CHANCE TO AT LEAST TRY TO MATCH THAT RECORD HEAT THAT WAS SET IN THE LATE 1990’S, BUT TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY WE WILL BE CHASING THOSE RECORDS. BUT WE’RE WANT TO MISS THIS BIT. 98 FOR TUESDAY, THAT RECORD OF 104 WAS SET IN 1988. HERE’S OVER THE FORECAST TIME. THAT STORM POTENTIAL WE EXPECTED JUST AHEAD. WE CAN SEE OVERALL A MIX OF CLOUDS AND STARS DURING THE NIGHT WARNING, MAYBE A BRUSH OR TWO AS WE MOVE THROUGH THE EARLY MORNINGS, BUT NOT MUCH. Our better chances for more significant precipitation are after midday and in the evening when that disturbance moves in. You can see it approaching toward the evening. In this data here. Then it clears up and we’ll clear up briefly, but then we’ve got another one coming on Tuesday. We have a low risk, a low risk of severe weather means a few severe weather events could bring some wind as well. That’s our biggest threat. I’d say maybe a little bit of small hail in the strongest cores. And for Tuesday, we have the same situation. Before that disturbance. BUT WHEN THE COLD FRONT HAS COME THROUGH, THAT’S THE WALKING SYSTEM. WEDNESDAY. SEE WHAT THAT DOES TO OUR NUMBERS, WHICH GO FROM THE MID 90S TO THE MID 80S. IT’S GOING TO FEEL A LOT BETTER ON THURSDAY, AND THERE MAY BE SOME SOME LONG-TERM RAIN OR STORM ON FRIDAY, BUT IT’S GOING TO BE A LITTLE DRIER AND MORE COMFORTABLE. BUT WE ARE WATCHING ANOTHER SERIES OF DISTURBANCES THAT COULD BRING MORE RAIN AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY INTO NEXT WEEK AS WELL. BUT JACOB, I CAN’T IMAGINE SITTING OUTSIDE AT A BASEBALL GAME IN THIS HEAT THAT…

ALARM: Heat warnings issued for the valley

Heat and humidity will dominate the headlines in the coming work week. The probability of storms is also increasing again. TJ Springer has the timetable and when things will improve a bit.

Heat and humidity will continue to increase through early next week as ridges form in the atmosphere. Highs will rise above 90 degrees again on Monday and above 35 degrees on Tuesday. Then heat indices could rise above 40 degrees, and that’s when heat warnings will come into effect. That’s why the storm team has declared an ALERT DAY. The biggest concern is heat next week, but we could also see a few storms. A few disturbances increase the chance of storms early in the week, with a cold front finally moving through Wednesday night into Thursday. There’s a slight risk on Monday, and instability increases. Gusty winds and small winds are the main dangers. That’s the case on Tuesday, when another wave moves in. Between these two disturbances, we don’t expect flooding, but a few storms are possible, so keep an eye out. The cold front finally brings some relief from the oppressive mood, and temperatures drop back to 27 degrees by Thursday. Highs are expected to remain seasonal and the weather will be less humid by the end of next week. Afternoon temperatures are expected to be around 28 degrees on Thursday and Friday, with dew points back to 15 to 16 degrees. That will feel wonderful after another heatwave. However, temperatures will start to rise again early next week, with temperatures expected to reach 32 degrees again. We could also see a few storms on Monday and Tuesday as a system slowly approaches the Mid-Atlantic. Have a great night! – TJ
