Local rapper shot and killed at opening of beauty salon in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — A local rapper was killed in a shooting during the grand opening of an Oakland beauty salon Saturday afternoon. Another person was injured.

Oakland police said they are still working to identify the shooter.

Family and friends gathered outside Glamour Beauty Supply in Oakland on Sunday, many in tears as they paid tribute to local rapper and entrepreneur Tan DaGod.

They confirmed to KRON4 that she was shot at a grand opening event for the beauty salon on Saturday. Tan posted a post on Instagram for her nearly 20,000 followers shortly before the shooting.

Tan had been promoting the event for a week, saying she would be at Glamour Beauty for a meet-and-greet. At around 5 p.m., shots rang out in the mall at 40th Street and Telegraph Avenue. People ran into this doughnut shop for cover.

Police are on the scene after a shooting at Glamour Beauty Supply on Saturday, July 13.

A man working there who wished to remain anonymous described the chaotic scene.

“I heard gunshots and thought it was part of their music,” he said.

Oakland police said paramedics arrived to find one gunshot victim who died at the hospital. Another gunshot victim was taken to a nearby hospital some time later.

Police believe the person is OK. The shooter has not yet been identified. No arrests have been made as of Sunday evening.

A man who works at a nearby Korean restaurant witnessed the shooting.

Bay Area rapper and philanthropist Mistah FAB posted about the shooting, saying he was booked for the same event but “God had other plans.”

He also wrote that he would always remember Tan as a hard-working doer full of ambition, drive and courage.
