Coast Guard and partners halt search for two people after helicopter crash near Na Pali coast, Kauai > U.S. Coast Guard News > Press Releases

HONOLULU – The Coast Guard and Kauai County suspended their search at 2 p.m. Sunday for two people missing after a helicopter crashed a quarter-mile off the coast of Kauai, Hawaii, on Thursday. –

Missing are 69-year-old Guy Croyden, the helicopter’s pilot, and 60-year-old James Quintua, one of the passengers. The other passenger, 53-year-old Amy Nichole Ruark Quintua, was recovered unconscious by lifeguards from the Kauai Ocean Safety Bureau on Thursday.

Rescue teams searched for about 60 hours, covering an area of ​​more than 1,300 square kilometers.

“We want to thank our partners in Kauai County for their professionalism and organization, which made this joint response very effective,” said Coast Guard Commander Kristen Hahn, Coast Guard Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator in Honolulu. “While this event was a tragedy for both the families and the community, I am comforted that our responders were able to collect some debris and conclude our search efforts, which could provide closure for all involved.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of Guy Croyden and James and Amy Nichole Ruark Quintua,” said Mayor Derek SK Kawakami. “We are truly grateful for the dedicated efforts of our search and rescue teams, our partner organizations and the community during this operation.”

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.
