Patna: Six people were arrested on Sunday in connection with the alleged assault and gang rape of a 17-year-old girl on July 11 in Bhagalpur district. The father of the survivor filed a complaint in this connection on Saturday, two days after the incident, police said, hoping to arrest the accused by Monday. According to the complaint, the incident took place on July 11 when the girl went to meet her boyfriend at a deserted place. “At about that time, four or five miscreants, who appeared to be drug addicts and drunk, made objectionable remarks about her. When her boyfriend objected, they allegedly beat him up and took the girl near a railway embankment where they committed gang rape,” the complaint read. Bhagalpur Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar said the survivor told her father that the men had also beaten her up. “The father filed a complaint out of fear two days after the incident. The forensic team has visited the crime scene and collected samples. The medical examination of the rape victim was conducted at Sadar Hospital under police supervision.” He added that the six people arrested in the case were being interrogated. “The accused have been identified. They are reportedly from the same area where the incident took place. Raids are being conducted to nab them. We hope to solve the case by Monday with the arrest of the accused,” he said.
