Myon Burrell was arrested in Minneapolis on alleged drug charges

Myon Demarlo Burrell, whose murder sentence was commuted in 2020, was arrested Thursday by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office for suspected narcotics-related offenses.

The sheriff’s office confirmed the arrest and noted that no charges have yet been filed against Burrell.

Burrell, 38, is incarcerated in the Hennepin County Jail. Records show he was arrested in Minneapolis.

He was also arrested in February and charged with possession of a weapon by a person ineligible to vote and fifth-degree drug possession. He is due in court for this case on Thursday, May 16.

Burrell was sentenced to life in prison as a teenager for the 2002 murder of 11-year-old Tyesha Edwards. He was released after 18 years when the state pardon board commuted his sentence.
