The full-back was sent off in the closing minutes of the quarter-final victory against Germany for an intentional foul on Jamal MusialaCarvajal was sent off for a second yellow card offence, which resulted in an immediate one-match ban. In fact, he was already banned from the semi-finals due to multiple yellow cards.

After his suspension expires, he will start against England as right defender, with centre-back Robin Le Normand also returned. The Real Sociedad star was also banned for the semi-finals after receiving his second yellow card at the Euro 2024 against Germany.

Rules for yellow and red card suspensions at the 2024 European Championship

At Euro 2024, players will be suspended for one match if they receive two yellow cards in two separate matches, and again if they receive four yellow cards. For example, if Player A received a yellow card in his national team’s first two group matches, he would also be suspended for the third match.

If a player receives a red card in a match, he is automatically suspended for one match. This applies either for a direct red card or if he is sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the same match. These suspensions can be extended if UEFA considers that the offence was serious enough to justify a higher penalty.

Is a player banned from the final of the 2024 European Championship?

No players from England or Spain are banned for the 2024 final.

Despite the change in yellow card rules, there was still the possibility of missing the final due to suspension if a player came into conflict with the referees.

Yellow cards were deleted after the quarter-finals, so players could not be banned from the final based on the accumulation of cautions. However, if a player had been sent off in the semi-finals, he would have automatically missed the final.
