Two shootings in Birmingham kill seven people, including a small child, according to Alabama police

WASHINGTON, July 14: Four people died in a multiple-victim shooting at a Birmingham nightclub late Saturday night, while an earlier shooting outside a home in the city left three people, including a small child, dead, police in Alabama said.
Officers responded shortly after 11 p.m. to a report that several people had been shot outside a nightclub in the 3400 block of 27th Street North, Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald said in a video posted on social media.
A man was pronounced dead on a sidewalk near the nightclub by Birmingham firefighters and emergency responders. Two women were pronounced dead inside the club, Fitzgerald said.
A second man was pronounced dead at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, while at least nine other victims were treated for gunshot wounds, he said.
The victims were transported by rescue personnel or drove to the hospital on their own, Fitzgerald said.
Investigators believe at least one suspect fired shots at the nightclub from the street, Fitzgerald said. Federal police are assisting Birmingham police in the investigation.
Separately, around 5:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a car crash in the 1700 block of Indian Summer Drive in Birmingham. Police found a car in the front yard of a home that appeared to have been shot at, Fitgerald said.
Inside the vehicle were a man, a woman and a young boy believed to be as young as five who had suffered gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire Department pronounced all three dead at the scene, he said.
Investigators believe they were victims of a “targeted shooting” before the suspect fled in a vehicle, Fitzgerald said.
Police asked residents to provide surveillance camera footage to assist the investigation. (AP)
