Couple from Sagle arrested for arrest warrant and destruction of evidence

SAGLE – Late last month, a Sagle couple was arrested after Bonner County officials alleged one of them resisted arrest and the other admitted to intentionally tampering with evidence and destroying property.

On June 22, officers responded to a call about a weapons incident involving the couple. According to the caller, the man allegedly attempted to punch and kick the woman and appeared to have a machete in his waistband.

While speaking with the couple, it was discovered that the man, Codi Muskrat, had an outstanding warrant out of Kootenai County. When officers attempted to arrest Muskrat, he allegedly began resisting and fighting with officers.

“A scuffle ensued during which several pieces of equipment fell off our uniforms, including our radio microphones, body cameras – approximately $130 each… and a cell phone – approximately $250,” an officer wrote in the probable cause affidavit.

While waiting for emergency services to arrive, officers searched for their equipment but were unable to find it, the affidavit states. A nearby witness reportedly told officers he saw the woman, Aimee Brown, run up while police officers were restraining Muskrat and allegedly grab the equipment and throw it into a nearby body of water.

According to court documents, officials were unable to recover the equipment after searching along the coast.

“When confronted with this matter, I heard Brown admit to the crime,” officers wrote in the probable cause affidavit.

Brown was arrested on two counts of destruction of evidence for the body cameras and one count of malicious damage to property for the cell phone. She was booked into the Bonner County Jail without further incident.

Her bail was set at $1,000 and a preliminary hearing will take place on July 17.
