Gunman opens fire on Trump during rally; former president injured but ‘fine’, gunman and bystander killed

FBI Special Agent Kevin Rojek said investigators are “close” to confirming the identity of the suspect in Saturday’s “assassination attempt” on former President Donald Trump – but they still have “no identified motive.”

“At this time, we are not ready to identify the shooter,” Rojeck said. “We are close to identifying him and as soon as we are 100 percent sure who this person is, we will announce it to the press.”

He added: “It’s about doing biometric confirmations… trying to verify his DNA.” Rojek confirmed that the suspected shooter was not carrying any identification.

However, it may take longer to obtain information about the shooter’s motive.

“We do not currently have an identified motive, but our investigators are working tirelessly to determine the motive,” Rojeck said.

When asked if the shooter was a “lone wolf,” Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police said, “We have tentatively identified a shooter, but that’s not all. It will take some time before we can definitively answer that question.”

Bivens also confirmed that in addition to the suspected shooter, who was killed at the scene, an adult male was killed and two other men were “seriously injured.” Bivens declined to reveal the identities of the victims, saying additional family members are still being notified.

When repeatedly pressed for more details, Rojek said: “There will be a long investigation to find out exactly what happened, how the man gained access to the location and what kind of weapon he had with him. All of this will take days, weeks and months.”

“But how surprised are you that he was able to fire about four or five shots?” asked a reporter.

“It’s surprising,” Rojek said.
