Buffalo News to Close Thanksgiving Day

There will be no more coupon distribution after Thanksgiving dinner. The parent company of the Buffalo News has announced that it will no longer print coupons on major holidays.

Lee Enterprises, which bought the Buffalo News in 2020, sent an email last week saying employees would enjoy their families during the holidays and there would be no physical paper printed on major holidays:

But the Buffalo Newspaper Guild, the union that represents the newspaper’s journalists, said in a tweet that the move was simply a cost-cutting measure.

“Our parent company decided to stop printing on major holidays to save money on printing and shipping costs, plain and simple,” the guild said. “(Lee Enterprises) should not be selling fiction to our readers and subscribers.”

Buffalo News “The newspaper will not publish a print edition on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, according to the newspaper’s website,” according to WBFO.com.

The Buffalo News Now Printed Outside New York State

The Buffalo News had already left the Buffalo News building in downtown Buffalo, near the KeyBank Center. The newsroom moved to Larkinville last October.

This move will result in the displacement of 160 employees.

Specifically, printing operations are moving to Cleveland, Ohio. What does this mean for your home paper delivery? Don’t worry. Paper delivery will not be affected.

The Buffalo News was founded by Ed Butler in 1880. It began as a Sunday morning newspaper. As of 2020, it is now owned by Lee Enterprises.
