Woman escapes potential NYC rapist fleeing on scooter

A woman escaped a potential rapist on the Upper East Side, who then fled on a scooter, police said.

The 27-year-old victim was outside 349 East 76th Street around 11:45 p.m. Friday when she was attacked, authorities said.

Officers responding to a 911 call reporting an “assault in progress” found the distraught victim, who was subsequently taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition, police said.

According to unconfirmed reports, the brave victim was helped by at least one Good Samaritan and sought refuge nearby.

The disturbing incident came as rape rates across the city rose 11%, according to the latest NYPD data.

A New York Police Department spokesman told the Washington Post that the unidentified attacker was racing west along East 76th Street on a “two-wheeled scooter.”

No arrests were made.

The attack shocked New Yorkers.

“We have an influx of people from all over the world that contributes to crime. I think the mayor needs to do a better job of policing the streets,” said a man who identified himself as Chris while working out at a nearby New York Sports Club. “You can’t underestimate the safety of New Yorkers these days.”

The neighborhood is “generally safe,” a receptionist at the gym told The Post.

“It’s pretty surprising that something like this happens,” said the gym employee. “It’s scary, you know. You just have to be careful.”
