Former President Donald Trump is safe and “protective measures” have been put in place around him after an attack at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, a U.S. intelligence spokesman said.

“This is currently an active Secret Service investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available,” the statement said. Trump was seen with a bloody face as what sounded like gunshots interrupted his rally before he was ushered off the stage.

Trump spokesman Steven Cheung added: “President Trump card thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is doing well and is being evaluated at a local medical facility. Further details to follow.”

Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldfinger told a local Pennsylvania newspaper that “one person is presumed dead,” presumably the shooter, Reuters reported, adding:

The venue was abandoned and the chairs overturned

and yellow police tape around the stage. A helicopter flew overhead and police officers walked through the area, as the video feed showed. Armed police officers were also seen on a roof near the stage, where Trump card US President Joe Biden received a first briefing on the incident, the White House said
