Man arrested after hours-long standoff in Henry County, Tennessee

HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man was taken into custody early Saturday morning after allegedly threatening to shoot Henry County police officers during a lengthy standoff outside his home.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office first released the incident shortly before 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, saying its deputies were working with Paris officers to handle a situation on Clifty Village Lane and that it created a heavy police presence that closed the road.

Several hours later, officials announced they had learned of a domestic assault in Benton County on Friday, July 12. However, the suspect – identified by the sheriff’s office as Charles Kroner – made it to his home in the 400 block of Clifty Village Lane.

Authorities were told Kroner had threatened to harm himself and others. When police arrived at the address, they found him sitting on the porch, but he then retreated into the house.

According to the sheriff’s office, Kroner began threatening authorities and said he would shoot if they approached. After a perimeter was established, police and family members attempted to communicate with the suspect. Members of the Paris Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Henry County EMS and dispatchers assisted at the scene.

Officials said the negotiations lasted about 6.5 hours, adding that Kroner came outside several times armed with a handgun.
