AURORA | Police are asking the public for help in identifying a car and its driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian in South Aurora on Saturday morning.

The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at East Hampden Avenue and South Uravan Street.

An unidentified man who was struck by a blue sedan was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police did not provide details about how the man was hit by the car.

According to police, the suspect’s car appears to be a mid-1990s Pontiac Grand Am sedan without a license plate on the front.

The car “is believed to have damage to the passenger side, including a missing passenger side mirror,” said police spokesman Joe Moylan. “The vehicle was last seen traveling east on Hampden from the scene of the accident.”

The intersection was closed for several hours and was only reopened after investigators had cleared the scene of the accident.

There was no information about the suspect.

“We ask the public to call 911 if they see the suspicious vehicle,” Moylan said.
