Kevin Youkilis was present at an alleged attack on Steve Raleigh's family

Former Red Sox player Kevin Youkilis was at the scene of an alleged attack in Cincinnati last month involving the family of WCPO chief meteorologist Steve Raleigh.

Youkilis, a three-time MLB All-Star and Cincinnati native, confirmed on Facebook Saturday that he was seen in a viral video of the incident, which occurred June 22 in the parking lot of the Montgomery Inn Boathouse on Riverside Drive, according to a police report.

Youkilis was in Cincinnati to broadcast the Red Sox game against the Reds at Great American Ball Park, he said in his Facebook post.

After having dinner with his agent at the Montgomery Inn, Youkilis said he saw a group of people, some wearing Red Sox gear, “shouting at each other in the parking lot,” and joined the group to try to defuse the situation.

“Unfortunately, I was a little too late and saw a horrific chain of events unfold,” Youkilis said in the post. “From what I saw, my intention was to help the two individuals on the scene and keep everyone else safe from harm. I freaked out a little after what I saw and used some flowery language in the video.”

Youkilis added that he had not been at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse with any of the people involved and did not know who they were.

“I pray for those injured and hope you recover quickly. I hope this helps explain the video and can’t wait to get home in the fall,” Youkilis said.

The video of the incident, which circulated on social media this week, was posted by Facebook user Stacie Morrow-Stickrod, who claims to be the victims’ daughter.

The video shows a man and a woman lying on the ground. “Please, she’s bleeding. She’s bleeding,” says the person filming the video.

In the video, you can hear other people arguing and about halfway through, you can hear someone say, “You are a disgrace to this (obscenity) brand of Red Sox.”

Then you hear another person say, “Go back to Boston.”

How is Steve Raleigh’s family involved in the incident?

The attack occurred after a minor accident occurred in the parking lot of the Montgomery Inn, an accident report said.

A Raleigh family member – whose name was not used by the Enquirer because he is not charged with a crime – was driving a black Cadillac Escalade in the Boathouse parking lot when he struck a white Ford F-150 for failing to yield to oncoming traffic, an accident report said.

According to a transcript of police emergency calls, a “large brawl” broke out in response to the accident.

A suspect punched a victim in the head, an incident report states. The victim was thrown to the ground and injured.

Two other people rushed to help the first victim. The perpetrator then hit the other two people and pushed them to the ground, injuring them as well.

A transcript of the police audio recording shows that a woman hit her head during the attack, bled and began vomiting.

The accident report does not provide information on the condition of the victims or whether they were taken to the hospital. However, the accident report does say the driver of the F-150 and another of its passengers were taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

According to the incident report, police believe the suspected attacker was under the influence of alcohol.

It is still unclear if the suspect has any connection to Raleigh or if he was involved in the accident that preceded the incident. The names of the two suspects and five victims in the accident report have been redacted, and police have not made any arrests.

WCPO is “aware” of incident involving chief meteorologist

After video of the incident made the rounds on social media this week, WCPO Vice President and General Manager Jeff Brogan released a statement on the television station’s Facebook page on Friday confirming that Raleigh’s family was involved in the incident.

“We are aware of the incident involving Steve Raleigh’s family,” Brogan wrote. “It remains under investigation and no charges have been filed against anyone at this time.”

Brogan added that Raleigh’s report “is consistent with the police report” and WCPO “will continue to monitor official findings.”
