Wanted man arrested after falling through apartment ceiling in New York

ELMIRA, NY (WETM) — A wanted man was arrested after falling into an apartment ceiling while hiding from police in Elmira, New York, according to police.

According to Elmira Police, officers were called to a residence at approximately 6:26 p.m. on July 12 for a report of George Wilson being wanted.


Officers surrounded the building and attempted to make contact with Wilson, but shortly after they arrived, one of the building’s tenants went outside and told them that Wilson had fallen from the attic into their apartment.

Police secured the apartment where Wilson allegedly fell and repeatedly yelled at Wilson to come out of hiding. A canine unit from the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office found Wilson after a brief search and he was arrested without further incident.

Wilson was wanted on three felony charges: third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (with intent to sell), second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He was also wanted on another warrant for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a misdemeanor).

Wilson was arrested and is currently being held in the Chemung County Jail on a warrant issued by the Chemung District Court.
