(CBS DETROIT) – A Warren man is accused of hitting a 65-year-old pedestrian last weekend for failing to stop, killing him.

Savion Jones, 35, was arraigned Thursday in 37th District Court and given a $200,000 cash/surety bond, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jones is also charged as a habitual second-time offender.

Prosecutors alleged that Jones was driving a Dodge RAM on 11 Mile Road near Hoover Road in Warren on May 4 when he struck James Suveges as he walked through the crosswalk.

“A hit-and-run is not just an accident, it is a deliberate act of callousness. When a driver flees instead of rendering aid, he compounds his guilt with cowardice and leaves behind shattered lives,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a statement.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for May 23.
