SC deputy arrested for driving under the influence, sheriff says. He lost his job

A South Carolina deputy sheriff was arrested for drunk driving.

Michael Kennedy, 34, was arrested by West Columbia police on Thursday, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said.

Kennedy, who began working with the sheriff’s department in August 2023, was immediately suspended without pay and is no longer employed, the sheriff’s department said.

“We are all responsible for the decisions we make and the consequences that result from those decisions,” Sheriff Leon Lott said in a press release. “My deputies know that if they break the law, they will be held accountable.”
