A man has been arrested in Bristol in connection with the discovery of human remains in suitcases at the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

After the 24-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning, the police are no longer looking for anyone else.

Investigators had identified the suspect as 24-year-old Colombian national Yostin Andres Mosquera. On Friday, forensic officers were seen entering and leaving a property in Shepherd’s Bush, west London, after more human remains were found there.

The remains in London are believed to be linked to those in Bristol and are still two male victims. Police believe the suspect travelled from London to Bristol on Wednesday, shortly before the suitcases were found.

Another 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with the discovery in Greenwich, London, on Friday but has since been released without charge.

Andy Valentine, Deputy Chief Constable of the Metropolitan Police, said: “This is a significant development in our investigation and I would like to thank the public for their support.”

“They are heavy, what is in the bodies?” Passerby jokes about suspects carrying “bloody suitcases” across a bridge

Giles Malone told LBC that another woman, apparently a passerby, joked with the suspects about the contents of the “shabby suitcases” in which human remains were later found.

“Another lady started to help them and the lady helping them said, ‘These are the heaviest suitcases I have ever lifted. What’s in them? Dead bodies?’

“We kind of joked about it, but they didn’t say anything.”

Both boxes probably contain human remains, police said.

He described the bags as “old, shabby suitcases – two large ones” and identified one of the men as “African American” and the other as “white.”

He added: “I came over the bridge to go to Long Ashton and my dad said (it was closed) because there was talk on the national news that some suitcases had been found.

“I immediately looked at my wife and said, ‘I wonder if this is a coincidence from last night.'”

Witness describes chase

Reece Wright, a student at the University of Bristol, told the BBC he was walking near the bridge with his girlfriend on Wednesday evening.

“As we continued on and got to the other end, we thought we saw blood on the bridge deck,” Wright said.

“As we continued walking, we came down, turned around and heard a commotion behind us and saw a cyclist chasing a man who was running away.

“He was making a lot of noise. They stopped and the guy got away.”

Mr Wright said one of the blue suitcases had two wheels broken off and “red stuff, which we now know to be blood, was leaking out the side near the zipper. It was pretty drastic.”
