Two people die and three are seriously injured after accident in Waterford

WATERFORD, Pennsylvania (WJET/WFXP) – State Police are releasing additional details on the fatal crash in Waterford.

Reports of the accident near the intersection of Route 97 and Union Road were received at 9:41 p.m. Route 97 was closed from Flatts Road to Wheelertown Road for several hours while emergency crews investigated and cleared the scene. Route 97 has since reopened to traffic.


State police have identified the victims as 23-year-old Brandon Borland of Waterford and 19-year-old Alycia Ingram of Union City.

According to state police, Borland was driving a 2009 Chevrolet HHR south on Route 97 when he attempted to pass several vehicles traveling in the same direction. As he moved into the oncoming lane to pass, he collided head-on with a 2006 Buick Rainier.

The driver of the Chevrolet and the passenger of the Buick suffered fatal injuries. The other four occupants of the Buick suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were all taken to UPMC Hamot for treatment.
